The cheapest hotel in the cetner of Las Vegas on the strip is the Flamingo. We stayed there from 8/29/10 9/1/10. The room was $ 50.00 a night. The breakfast buffet in the morning and the seafood buffet in evening are excellent.Every one at the Flamingo are very friendly and helpful.I would say the best time to go to Las Vegas is around Labor Day.

Jessica, I don't think it's likely there will be any problems for your December trip. The Riv went through some financial trouble about a year back, but the situation appears to have stabilized since then.

With the recent closing of the Sahara, though, the Riviera is kind of isolated on that end of the Strip. It's a fair walk to the section of the Strip where most casinos are located.

Shower drains do not work well here, rooms need a lot of attention, I stayed once and NEVER again!

Simon, the Riv is still dealing with some serious financial issues, but it seems likely that it will be open during the time you will visit.

See this article: Will the Riv be open for my stay?
